Amphibians: American Bullfrog

At up to 6" in length, the American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) grows larger than any other New England frog. For younger, smaller bullfrogs, when size alone isn't enough to nail proper identification, check for dorsolateral ridges -- Green Frogs have them, American Bullfrogs don't. American Bullfrogs eat a variety of prey including various insects, other frogs, and even small mammals and birds, and, in turn, they're preyed upon by Belted Kingfishers, Green and Great Blue Herons, and humans, among others.
