Beetles: Spotted Cucumber Beetle

Photo of Spotted Cucumber Beetle

A few days ago, this bright, winged creature landed on my spotting scope while I was observing hundreds of gulls at a coastal beach. Flipping through a field guide when I got home, I discovered that this green (often yellow) beetle with eleven or twelve black spots is a Spotted Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata). You may have noticed one of these beetles in a post I did last month on "Ipswich" Savannah Sparrows (check the bottom photo).
