Beetles: Whitespotted Sawyer

I don't stop and photograph every insect I see, but I sure was glad to have my camera handy when I noticed this striking insect in late June. My immediate thought, after glimpsing this creature was, "Could that be an Asian Longhorn Beetle?" So, I snapped a few photos and planned to find out.

A simple web search led me to the real identity of this native beetle. The white patch at the base of the wings is apparently the give-away that this is not an Asian Longhorn Beetle but rather a Whitespotted Sawyer (Monochamus scutellatus).
