7/8 -- Coastal Wild Edibles: Biddeford Pool

Where: Park/meet at the south end of 7th St. (near Bay St.) in Biddeford Pool (map)

What: Join me for an afternoon plant walk along neighborhood paths as well as a section of rocky and sandy coastline. We'll stop and meet some fragrant (and tasty) flowers, pungent leaves, and ripening fruit. Bring along a notebook, a camera, and all of your senses. This workshop is for adults.

Cost/Registration: $20. Send me an email if you'd like to be notified of possible weather cancellation. Otherwise, simply show up.


7/15 -- Summer Birding: Biddeford Pool

When: Saturday, July 15th from 3:30-5pm (weather permitting)

Where: Park/meet at the south end of 7th St. (near Bay St.) in Biddeford Pool (map)

What: Join me for an afternoon bird walk in beautiful Biddeford Pool. We'll seek out birds in several different habitats, including open ocean, sandy beach, freshwater wetland, and pocket forest. Expect to see some shorebirds, songbirds, gulls, ducks, wading birds, and more. Bring along binoculars, if you have some. I'll also have a spotting scope to share. Beginning birders welcome!

Cost/Registration: $15. Send me an email if you'd like to be notified of possible weather cancellation. Otherwise, simply show up.


7/16 -- Wild Edibles Walk at Gilsland Farm

Where: Gilsland Farm Audubon Center, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, ME (map)

What: Join me for a multi-sensory plant experience at Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm. Exploring fields and forest edges, we'll get to know about a dozen species with edible parts. No experience necessary, curiosity required! This walk is geared towards adults.

Cost/Registration: This walk is offered through Maine Audubon. $10 for members; $15 for non-members. Click here for more info and to register.


9/25 -- Tasting the Wild: An introduction to foraging wild plants (Talk)

Where: Learning Center Rm. 24, 189 Alfred Street, Biddeford, ME 04005

What: Nibbling on wild edible plants is a powerful way to connect with your local landscape. In this two-hour class, I'll inspire you to branch out and try some of the tasty, wild offerings found within and beyond your gardens and yards. I'll discuss my essential foraging guidelines, emphasizing personal safety and respectful gathering, as well as share some helpful tips, including identifying several fantastic foraging teachers, books and websites. Through photos, information and stories, you'll get to know an assemblage of plants who offer sensory experiences you can't get from your neighborhood grocery store!

Cost: $20.

Registration: This course is offered through Biddeford Adult Education. Registration is not yet open.


10/16 -- Birds of Autumn: A photographic exploration (Talk)

When: Monday, October 16th from 6:30–8:30pm

Where: Learning Center Rm. 24, 189 Alfred Street, Biddeford, ME 04005

What: In this two-hour class, I'll introduce you to some of my feathered friends of fall through photos, audio clips, and stories. Venturing beyond the birds of backyard feeders, you may discover wild winged ones you never knew existed. No experience with birds needed; curiosity required!

Cost: $20.

Registration: This course is offered through Biddeford Adult Education. Registration is not yet open.
