Fall Plant ID: Fall-dandelion

Photo of Bee on Fall-dandelion

Though it's nearly November, the green season isn't yet over in coastal New England. In my yard, bees are busy visiting late-blooming wildflowers like Fall-dandelion (Scorzoneroides autumnalis), a Eurasian transplant growing in lawns and disturbed ground throughout the northeast. The flowers of this herbaceous perennial resemble those of Common Dandelion but are borne on thinner, branching stalks. Leaves vary in shape but often feature many narrow lobes.
