Quiz #40: Bird

I found these tracks in light snow near the edge of an ice-covered pond in North Attleborough, MA.  Whoever left them walked right by a small stand of Cat-tail (Typha sp.) to approach an opening in the ice.  Who left the tracks?

  1. Great Blue Heron

  2. Jonathan Lueken

My guess would be Great blue heron.

  3. Great Blue Heron. Toe one (hallux) is long and registers more or less completely. Nice find this time of year I have never seen GBH tracks in the snow.
