Common Loon?
Yes indeed… Common Loon.
cormorant? not sure what kind though. how deep’s the water there, 15′ or so?
Rick: This bird was near the mouth of a river, not sure how deep the water was.
That sounds like a good transition area, between fresh and salt water. But, isn’t a loon’s head all black?
If he/she is an adult, and it’s between Mar-Oct (roughly), then yes, the head would be all black. But in winter plumage they have white throats.
