  1. And it’s climbing downward on the tree. Don’t some birds climb either up or down, depending on the insects they eat?

    1. I’m not sure if it has to do with insect preferences, but nuthatches are certainly noted for traveling sideways and headfirst down trees. Brown Creepers also glean insects from tree bark, but generally travel from the bottom up.
